Ellesmere is a small market town in Shropshire, situated by the side of ‘The Mere’, the largest natural lake in England outside of the Lake District and one of nine glacial meres in the area.
The mere was once overlooked by Ellesmere Castle, an 11th century motte and bailey structure. The grounds are now the home of a local bowling club.
